A champion for a better future in Québec
Jean-Yves Duclos was elected Member of Parliament for the riding of Québec on October 19, 2015. He was then appointed Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister responsible for Seniors, Housing, and Anti-Homelessness. During his first term, he was in charge of the implementation of the Canada Child Benefit and the very first National Housing Strategy, two measures that to this day benefit many Québec residents. Following his re-election, he was appointed President of the Treasury Board in November 2019.
Jean-Yves Duclos is originally from Québec and is proud to have grown up in Beauport where his parents still live. He has been sharing his life with Marie-Chantal Dumas for over twenty-five years. They are the happy parents of three children named Étienne, Clémence, and Antoine.
Prior to his election, Jean-Yves was a tenured professor and director of the Department of Economics at Laval University. Jean-Yves completed high school at l’École Secondaire François-Bourrin in Beauport and college at the Petit Séminaire de Québec. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (First-Class Honours) from the University of Alberta, and master’s and doctoral degrees in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. In 2014, Jean-Yves was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the highest accolade bestowed on Canadian researchers.
Jean-Yves is very proud to represent a community as vibrant as ours.
Jean-Yves is also an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys walking in the woods, biking, skiing and canoeing. He is fond of the many parks that make our region such an exceptional place, including the Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge, the Plains of Abraham, the Promenade Samuel-De Champlain and the Parc linéaire de la Rivière-Saint-Charles.
Jean-Yves will continue to proudly represent the people of Québec.
