A champion for a better future in Québec Centre

A native of Quebec City, Jean-Yves Duclos is proud to have grown up in Beauport where his parents still live. For over twenty-five years, he has been sharing his life with Marie-Chantal Dumas. They are the happy parents of three children and two grandchildren.

Jean-Yves is an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys walking in the woods, biking, skiing and canoeing. What does he love most about Quebec City? Its charm and many parks, including the Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge, the Plains of Abraham, the Promenade Samuel-De Champlain and the Parc linéaire de la Rivière Saint-Charles.

Jean-Yves Duclos was elected the Member of Parliament for the riding of Québec in October 2015. He was then appointed Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister responsible for seniors, homelessness and housing. He was in charge of implementing the Canada Child Benefit and the very first National Housing Strategy, two measures that to this day benefit many citizens of Quebec. He was appointed President of the Treasury Board in November 2019 and Vice-Chair of the Cabinet Committee on COVID-19 in 2020. In September 2021, he was re-elected for the third time and was appointed Minister of Health.

He was appointed Minister of Public Services and Procurement in July 2023 and Quebec Lieutenant in September 2024.

Prior to his first election, Jean-Yves was a tenured professor and director of the Department of Economics at Laval University. An author of numerous publications, a speaker and a renowned expert in economics, he was often invited to comment on current events in Quebec and Canada.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (first-class honours) from the University of Alberta, and master’s and doctoral degrees in Economics from the London School of Economics. In 2014, Jean-Yves was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the highest accolade bestowed on Canadian researchers.
